I bought the Ricoh SG 3110DN to start using 'sublimation'. Thats the process of using special printer, ink, and paper to heat press a printed picture onto a mug.I read this guide on ICC color profiles:I get it, but i dont think im applying it correctly to what im doing in photoshopI attempted to calibrate my mac monitor screen:after that I followed the printer specific setup guide given by the special ink manufacturer:The guide talks about putting photoshop in RGB mode.but the printer is CMYK.

Regardless I followed it to the letter and the resulting colors do not really match the colors in my photoshop image. sky blue looks dark blue when printed. Minecraft seeds with castles ps3 1.

black looks like a dark greenish brown when printed. royal purple looks kinda like a purple-magentaish mix when printedThe ink is expensive so I'm trying to figure out how to fix this best I can without having to print out a bunch of test prints.Thank you for all of your help!!. Sorry for the late response! I saw your reply at a time when I couldn't write back and forgot about it until now.We only do items we can do with a flat press, so I'm afraid I don't know much about the process for mugs in particular.

I can tell you that the best tip I can give is to always get a few extra of whatever you sublimate if you aren't already doing so. Usually all the items are cheap so we get a couple over what we need so that if we mess up a few getting into the swing of things it's not a big deal. Then if we have extras we can keep them as samples to show customers in person. Also, make sure to check the ink levels in your printer every so often. There aren't any in-your-face reminders like some other printers and I have been stuck having to pay for next day shipping to get the ink I need to complete a job.

Also, wherever you order from might have give you a small credit if you send them your old cartridges. Finally, if you do ever move on to flat items, always pay attention to what side goes up and if you need to mirror the image or not. And if you are working with something that gets a bleed, get some parchment paper or something to put underneath to soak up the extra ink. Otherwise it can stay on your heat press or Teflon sheet and then transfer into other sublimated items or garments.Anyway, that's about all I have at the moment. Sorry I couldn't help out a bit more with your color problem!

Really though, once you get that figured out it will probably be smooth sailing. Sublimation is a bit time consuming, but it is easy once you get into the swing of it. The hardest part is learning the quirks of the different substrates. Once you do though, almost everything will make you say wow when you open the heat press and peel back the paper.

System preferences printers & scanners select your printer options & supplies under general you can see your driver version.' Driver' is what i meant rather than 'profile', sorry. But just make sure your mac is using your printers driver and not your mac's. This happened to me and my colors were messed up.

Found out when i installed my printer the mac automatically used its drivers. My mac isnt loaded with all the color profiles my printer has, so there were communication issues when printing on certain medias.

Written InstructionsStep OneDouble click on the zipped file you downloaded from our site. The unzipped folder will include two files - the profile and an instructions file.

Profile

Open and read the instructions file!Step TwoTo 'install' a printer profile, you will need to copy and paste the profile to the system folder location listed below. You will copy and paste the profile only. Do not attempt to copy the entire folder as that will not properly install your profile. You may see an administrator authentication box appear when pasting the profile. Just enter your admin password where prompted.Go to - Macintosh HD Library Colorsync ProfilesThe profiles will now be ready for use in the print dialog of your photo editing or print software.Trouble Shooting.Locked Profile Folders in 10.7+On a MAC running 10.7 and up, the 'library/colorsync/profiles' folder location may be locked by default and can only be unlocked by an admin. This state results in the inability of a user to install your icc print profiles per the normal instructions. Papers with the Archival designtation can take many forms. They can be glossy, matte, canvas, or an artistic product.

These papers are acid free, lignin free and can be made of virgin tree fiber (alpha cellulose) or 25-100% cotton rag. They are likely to have optical or fluorescent brightening agents (OBAs) - chemicals that make the paper appear brighter white. Presence of OBAs does not indicate your image will fade faster. It does predict a slow change in the white point of your paper, especially if it is displayed without UV filter glass or acrylic. Archival Grade Summary. Numerous papers - made from tree or cotton content. Acid and lignin free base stock.

Inkjet coating layer acid free. Can have OBAs in the base or the coating. Photo Grade products are designed to look and feel like modern photo lab paper. Most photo grade media are resin coated, which means they have a paper core covered by a thin layer of polyethelene (plastic).

Plastic gives the paper its photo feel, stability (flatness), water resistance, handling resistance, and excellent feed consistency.Prints on photo grade media are stable over long periods. With pigment inks in a protected environment, you can see up to 80 years on-display life. All RC papers are Photo Grade for two reasons. Plastic content is not technically archival by museum standards.

Also, the inkjet coating of all RC papers is slightly acidic. It facilitates instant drying and does not actually change the stability of your inks over time. Virtually all RC papers have optical brightening agents (OBAs). Photo Grade Summary. RC papers. Plastic coated acid and lignin-free paper core. Inkjet coating layer will have slight acidity.

Contain OBAs.
