Doki Doki Normal VN Mod/YURI Route Ep 7 (The first date) by Ronald McOnePunch. Doki Doki True Route - A Date With Yuri! By CompleteMonochrome. The Normal VN is exactly what we expected and wanted from the game! A normal visual novel! Experience the way the girls were meant to be in a story filled-to-the-brim with humor, fun, and plenty of sweet moments to savor and enjoy! (Disclaimer: This mod is planned to have an updated 2.0 release with tons of new content soon!).

Britt: Let me start off by saying that I did NOT hate this mod. In fact, I didn't even dislike it. I thought it was pretty well made actually, and I'd even call it a favorite of mine. It centers around my second favorite girl. But I have a lot of problems with it, so I decided to do a mini review of 'Doki Doki Exit Music'.If you don't know what 'Doki Doki Exit Music' is, it's a mod that centers around Natsuki from 'Doki Doki Literature Club'.

And if you don't know what 'Doki Doki Literature Club' is, then I've reviewed it here:It's been awhile since I've looked over that review, so it probably contains many spoilers. If you'd prefer not seeing spoilers, you probably shouldn't read it after the start. Now, in a way, I guess I can't really call this a 'review'. I'm kinda just pointing out things in the mod that I (personally) did not like. This mod seems to be very popular in the DDLC community, so it was difficult finding anyone who shared my opinions on it. But I just really had to point these problems out and get this off my chest, because I was constantly getting frustrated with certain things in the game.If the creators of the mod have DA accounts and stumble upon this, I want you ALL to know that despite all these issues I have with the mod, I still really liked it and think you did a great job. However, nothing is without flaws.

So without stalling much longer, let's get on with it.SPOILERS FOR THE MOD DOWN BELOW.1. Sayori and Yuri were OOC AFHere's my BIGGEST issue with this game; Sayori and Yuri's characters. Sayori becomes a petty, jealous, bitch to Natsuki, and Yuri becomes a psychotic bitch to Natsuki. I know that the mod is centered around Natsuki and her relationship with the player, but the other characters didn't have to become unlikable bitches just to make Natsuki look better.

Monika started out as a bitch, but eventually apologized for her behavior and got better over time. So she's probably the character that's handled the best.

Sayori and Yuri however, are absolutely awful here. In this mod, Monika isn't self-aware. She's just a normal, high school girl. So these 2 acting the way they were didn't make any sense, because Yuri only acted psychotic in the actual game because of Monika messing with her files.

And I can't even IMAGINE Sayori being so jealous of Natsuki that she doesn't even wanna be around her or talk to her. The mod takes place after the festival of the main game when sh.t hits the fan. MC-Kun stops Sayori from killing herself just in time, and takes her to the hospital. When there, he notices Natsuki there as well.

Her face all bloody and bruised. For anyone who knows the situations with these girls from the real game, you should know why her face is like that. For those who DON'T know, it's heavily implied that Natsuki's father abuses her, and this becomes a big part of this mod. Duh.) So after finding Sayori about to commit suicide, MC swears to be there for her more, but after seeing Natsuki, he almost completely forgets about Sayori's situation to help out Natsuki. Now, this isn't a problem in and of itself. The way it was handled is what I have a problem with. I know he still cares about Sayori.

He's shown to throughout the game. But after that, it feels like he abandoned her after he saw someone else in trouble. Now I'm not saying Sayori's depression is worse than Natsuki's abusive household situation, because they're both serious issues that need to be addressed. It's just that, Natsuki became his TOP priority from then on, and he hardly paid Sayori any attention. At one point in the game she has some sort of mental breakdown, and her mom takes her back to the hospital.

After a couple of days of leaving her be (cause she wanted him to), he decides to try and visit her again. But instead of doing that, he breaks into Natsuki's home once again to gather some clothes for her. By then he had almost completely forgotten about visiting Sayori.Look, the point I'm trying to make here is that I EXPECTED Sayori to be a tad jealous of MC and Natsuki's relationship, but NOT to this extent. Sayori always put everyone else's happiness before her own (which led to her depression in the first place), but if MC was happy, she'd be happy too.

She cares about him so much, that him being with another girl would DEFINITELY hurt her, but she wouldn't act like an asshole to Natsuki and basically stop being friends with her. She even told MC that they should stop going out! And here in lies the 'visual novel' trope I'm not too fond of. Or the anime trope in general for that matter. This takes place after the festival, like I had mentioned. MC and Sayori have been friends since childhood, so you'd think he'd put a little more effort into comforting Sayori and making sure she's actually better.

The friend you've grown up with almost KILLED herself, and you kinda just brush it off cause some other girl is in trouble too?? MC knew Natsuki for a month at most, and he put her situation above someone who was 'supposedly' his best friend since they were kids.

It never bothered me that much that the main character in anime and whatnot hardly ever pick their childhood friend, but here it pissed me off. He could've tried even a little bit harder to help Natsuki AND Sayori out. In fact, he should've went to the damn police for Natsuki!

I dunno about anyone else, but if my friend that I've known since childhood was depressed and almost killed herself, I'd try to make sure SHE'S OK first before trying to help someone who, at this point in time ( right after the festival), I've only known for about a week or 2. Again, both of their situations were bad, but MC handled it poorly IMO.And don't even get me STARTED on Yuri.

For f.cks sakes. Monika tells MC that Yuri cuts herself, something she didn't want ANYONE to know btw. And then after that, she all of a sudden gets super happy and horny at the fact that MC knows she cuts herself and she starts sending him nudes with scars all over her body. What the ever living hell is this?? In the real game, Yuri cuts herself for pleasure. BUT, she knows it's wrong and not healthy. It's not until Monika starts messing with her files that she starts going full on Yandere for the MC. But in this mod, Monika has NO control over the files.

Like I said, she's normal in this mod. A bit bitchy, but still normal. I don't understand how Yuri suddenly started her descent into insanity, and tried to get MC to cheat on Natsuki with her. It came literally out of nowhere. Oh, and Yuri bullied the ever living sh.t out of Natsuki!

In the real game, Yuri and Natsuki didn't get along all the time because they were polar opposites of each other. They could still get along, they just didn't always agree and sometimes they'd argue a little bit. But they didn't HATE each other until, again, Monika MESSED WITH THEIR FILES.

Here, Yuri is like a God damn monster to Natsuki. She even drives the poor girl to suicide and feels NO remorse for it afterwards! It's like, Sayori and Yuri's negative traits are turned ALL the way up without Monika's influence, and it just made me so angry.

I thought I might've had personal bias here with the way Sayori was portrayed because she's my favorite, but I don't think that's the case. Considering Natsuki is my SECOND favorite and Yuri is my LEAST favorite and I still hated the way she was presented here. Natsuki just feels like she was put on a pedestal by the MC and that anyone else in the mod is just an awful human being because they all treated her like dirt for no reason whatsoever. I love Natsuki, but I thought this was stupid and unfair to the other girls. We could've had this mod work out perfectly fine without making Sayori a petty, jealous, stalker who hates Natsuki all of a sudden for dating MC, and Yuri an insane, Yandere, bully who hates Natsuki for dating MC! It was just really dumb IMO.Ugh.

I just hated it so much.2. Natsuki and MC's charactersI wanted to separate MC and Natsuki from Yuri and Sayori because my problems with them were a bit different. I thought these 2 were fine for the most part. Out of the 2 though, MC kinda pissed me off sometimes. So lemme explain some reasons why: 1.) I hate how MC told Natsuki Sayori and Yuri's secrets (especially since Sayori didn't want anyone else to know about her depression. Yuri stopped caring after.well.

Ya know.) The reason I have a problem with this is because he told their secrets so easily to Natsuki just because she's his girlfriend. Look, if someone told me to keep a secret, I'd keep it. Even from my boyfriend.

He told her about Sayori's depression and Yuri's cutting habits without much thought, but whenever (and I mean, WHENEVER) Natsuki's situation with her father was brought up by someone else, he'd say 'I can't tell you.' How is that fair?? OK, maybe secrets work differently with me.

Maybe you're supposed to tell your significant other everything regardless of circumstance, but this just felt so wrong and unfair to me. You can't just reveal Sayori and Yuri's issues to someone else but then keep Natsuki's issue a secret! Sayori and Yuri wanted these things to be private. Honestly, MC wouldn't even know about Yuri's cutting if Monika hadn't told him (probably), so I guess she didn't really help the situation. But this again makes me think that MC didn't even actually care about Sayori's depression. Why would he tell everybody about it when she didn't want him to??

You're probably thinking 'well, Monika knew about Natsuki's situation'. True, but she found out on her own towards the end of the game. MC didn't tell her about it.2.) His relationship with Natsuki.

I both enjoyed and disliked his relationship with her. On one hand, I'm SUPER glad he saved her from her abusive father and gave her a happy life. On another hand, he (like I said before) put her on a pedestal and treated Sayori like crap a lot of the time in favor of Natsuki. Also, I'm not one to believe in love at first sight. Do I believe that the first person you fall in love with can be your partner for the rest of your life? But as I said before, he and Natsuki didn't even know each other that long, and he considered her the love oh his life. Now, this is probably hypocritical of me because my boyfriend and I call each other that all the time and we've only been dating for 2 years, but we knew each other BEFORE we started dating.

Chinua achebe family

We didn't go a week or month of knowing each other than suddenly decided to hook up. I would've been completely fine with large time-skips of them spending more time together since this is a visual novel so some things would have to be cut out, but that's not really what happened.

I guess if you want to imagine this being like a fantasy sort of love in a way, then sure. It's fine I suppose. Bijuu Mike compared their relationship to that of Nagisa and Tomoya from CLANNAD (one of my favorite romance anime btw.) I personally think Tomoya and Nagisa had MUCH better chemistry, but again. It's fine how you might interpret their love for each other.3.) He was kind of a freaking idiot, but this just ties into the situation with Sayori. I think he handled Yuri throwing herself at him any chance she got pretty well, but it ended up being a bad choice anyway (cause of the ending. Which I'll get to soon.) I think he could've handled Sayori and Natsuki's situations better. He could've at least tried calling the police to investigate Natsuki's house, and he could've put more effort into care for Sayori. As for Natsuki, there wasn't much I found wrong with her here.

She's probably the most in character person in the mod, at least till the end (which I'll get to in a second. Hold up lol.) MC is the one I took more issues with.

He and Natsuki drinking and having de S. Was.I don't even know the word to use. I guess it's normal for teenagers to do stuff like that, but I didn't think she'd be in the right state of mind to do stuff like drink alcohol and be sexually active. That's just me I guess, doe.3. The art.Now this part is nitpicky as hell, but the CG art bothered me so damn much.and only like, one other person besides me took issue with it. I know art is really, reeeeeeeally subjective, but this was just.not good. Whenever a CG popped up, it was obviously Photoshopped to death.

Some were better:than others: Couldn't find the original image of course, so it wasn't ALL bad. I think when they attempted to draw the artwork themselves, they did better. Not great, but MUCH better than the edited pictures. It just kind of.baffled me when people said the artwork was great.

I was wondering if we were looking at the same pictures here haha. And it gets a little insulting when you realize that the edited pictures of Natsuki are almost all Sayori pictures originally.

How rude, guys! This is a joke.

Not actually upset about this, I'm sowy. But I kept wondering to myself why they didn't just get an actual artist to draw the CG's for them, instead of Photoshopping most of them. (That last one up there is really off putting to me. I'm sorry.)Now the sprite changes however, were very nice.

Most of the time when the characters were wearing custom clothes, they looked very neat like they actually belonged on the character (an exception to this is Natsuki wearing MC's clothes, but other than that, great job on the sprites!) The custom backgrounds look nice, too. I'm wondering if they came from different visual novels or if maybe they were left overs that never got put into the real game? I don't think those were drawn by them, but they looked niceBut again, I'd say this part is the most nitpicky. I was probably being overly critical of the artwork, but I'd be lying if I said I liked most of it. Great work nonetheless! And lastly. The ENDINGDun, dun, DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN! I didn't like the ending. Not because it was sad (I had spoiled the ending for myself anyway, and all my sadness kinda went away after the 'Rainclouds' mod.Ahem.) Nah, I disliked the ending because it didn't make a whooooole lotta sense to me.

I'm probably just being an overly analytical snob again, but I don't understand why Natsuki killed herself after Yuri bullied her again. Apparently some kids from her class did, too (for.some reason.) From what I'VE personally seen, Natsuki should be used to bullying and judgmental people. Despite the terrible circumstances she was in with her dad, she was still the most mentally sane person out of the bunch. In the main game, Monika BARELY managed to do anything to her files. She just turned her Tsundere attitude up. But other than that, she wasn't going insane like the others were.

Monika didn't even kill her. She just deleted her!

She's dealt with much worse before, and after MC saved her, it seemed like she was just getting stronger every day. She didn't let Yuri bother her before. In fact, when they were all hanging out at the cafe, Natsuki had NO problem getting ready to fight Yuri for sending MC nudes and flirting with him all creepy-stalker like. And when Monika was being rude to her, she just ignored her and left the scene. Why all of a sudden has Yuri triggered her so badly that she decided to end her own life?

Also, this is kinda off topic, but Natsuki was hanging in her room the same exact way Sayori was in hers. Add that to the OTHER edited Sayori pictures! MC finds her cutting her wrists in his bathroom because.Yuri told her to?

So apparently Yuri was being the wonderful scum of the Earth that she is, and told Natsuki lies about her and MC. She told her that MC was cheating on her and that she should cut her wrist because she'd never be good enough for him. I guess if I take into account that Natsuki saw MC pinning Yuri to a wall and assumed he was cheating, I'd understand. But he was pinning her to the wall to tell her, once and for all, that he's not interested in her. If Natsuki had let him explain, then this wouldn't have happened! She knows Yuri's crazy from the text messages and nudes she sent to MC. Even Monika told them she was crazy.

And MC explained to you already that there was nothing between them (Also, why the hell was she watching them through the window? Why didn't she step in and stop it? And wasn't she supposed to be in class anyway??) And then there's the part where MC takes Natsuki to the hospital after she cuts her wrists.

He's clearly waiting outside to see her, but when he falls asleep the nurse doesn't tell him till the next day that Natsuki's been taken home by her 'emergency contact'. Nice job indirectly causing her death, ya turd! So some stuff happens, MC goes to her house waiting for her dad to leave again so he can attempt to save her once more, Monika comes outta nowhere and that's when she finds out on her own what her dad's been doing to her, Natsuki's dad finally leaves and when MC goes into her house he finds her hanging from a rope in her bedroom. OK, maybe another reason she might've decided to end it was because she was back in the clutches of her father. But honestly at this point, I probably would've just told the hospital what he's been doing to me.

How did she get there at the beginning of the game? Did her dad take her there? Why would he take her there if he purposely beat her and they're gonna ask how she got the bruises? She probably could've told someone right then and there what he's been doing to her, but I guess we wouldn't have a game if we did that:/And I know telling someone about your abuse isn't as simple as I'm making it out to be. Trust me, I really do know how it feels to keep something like that away from people who could help you. But you'd think the school would've questioned her absences and someone other than MC would notice her bruises and start to wonder what's up. I'm glad scumbag dad got arrested at least, but I just felt bitter knowing that Natsuki had to die for something to actually have been done about him.

And at first it kinda seemed like Natsuki's dad might've actually been the one who hung her and just made it look like a suicide, but I don't think that's what the mod people's were actually going for.As for how everyone else dealt with the situation, MC hadn't left his house in about a week after what happened. He even missed her funeral, which kinda shocked me at first, but it'd probably be too painful.

Yuri was being even more of a cunt. Like seriously, even AFTER she's dead, she's still tryna get into MC's pants. RIGHT after the funeral, too! Why did she even go to it if she was gonna act this way??

Sayori was back to her old self kinda. I guess.Monika is still best Doki in this mod. After a bit of time, MC decides to kill himself too.

Monika tried to stop him, and it seemed like it might've worked out.but he jumped into the ocean and drowned.I'm not mad that they died. I'm upset because I feel like it could've been handled much better.

If it was confirmed that Natsuki's FATHER actually murdered her, I'd actually find that more believable. It'd still be super dark, but I feel it'd make a bit more sense. I just don't know why Yuri bullying her again sent her over the edge.I don't think MC should've killed himself, though. I'd get onto the thing I said earlier about how he didn't know her that long, but I'd sound like a broken record and this probably isn't right to say. I legitimately felt bad for him. I really did. He lost someone he cared for.

I know how painful that can be.Personally I would've had a choice at the end. Where you can choose to jump off the bridge, or live out your life. But, maybe that's just me.

Maybe it's too cliche. As for some positives I have for the mod: Monika was the best character. At first she seemed really mean, but she grew out of that and apologized. And I like how she was given a backstory with her parents for why she acts the way she does. I love Natsuki, despite the criticisms of the mod here.

I feel she didn't get enough love in the real game, so this was nice. The original music was really great too, adding their own thing to the background. Again, the backgrounds CG's were nice as well, and the custom clothes for the sprites. The writing could be really well done when it wanted to be, and the poems were sweet (I suck at poems.) And as much as I criticized Natsuki and MC's relationship, it could get really freaking adorable at times. Like when he bought her a scarf and held it over her head, causing her to jump for it cause she's so short.

It was really cute.So as I said before, I DID NOT HATE this mod. Not in the slightest. I actually really enjoyed it. There were just some things in it that reeeeally bothered me and I felt the need to talk about them here.I still REALLY liked it, though. One of my favorite DDLC mods.I respect the opinions of anyone who disagrees with these points who've seen/played the mod. And again, if the creators see this, I hope I wasn't being too harsh.I still really liked your mod! I hope you make more some dayI suppose if anyone wanted me to rate it, I'd give it a 7 outta 10.

This more than perfectly sums up everything I despise about this infernal abomination. I do agree with all that you wrote here, and if I had the power to make it so, I'd wish for Exit Music to have never existed in the first place. This damned thing brought up some rather uncomfortable real-life memories of having lost friends and family members over the years. Reading this felt very cathartic and if I ever get around to it, I'm seriously thinking about commissioning an art series titeld 'Justice for Natsuki' inspired by her tragic fate in this, with her POS father being sentenced to death by any number of potential executioners of my choice.

Said executioners need not necessarily be human. To be honest, I thought the same thing when I played the mod.

I sort of didn't like the ending either because of the same reason you have. But Yuri was a total crazy girl in this case. To be honest, Yuri's character didn't make sense to me because of her psychotic personality in this case (Because she acted like that in Act 2 of the original when Monika tampered with her character file). There was some things in the Exit Music mod that didn't make much sense to me, but I still enjoyed the mod either way.

After all, Natsuki is my favorite Doki. I literally hated her in this mod. At first, she was a normal girl until she goes psychotic up to the point where she sends MC pictures of her showing her self-harm habits but in erotic ways. Then when MC and Natsuki attend school after a long time of absence, she literally attempts to seduce him, but the way MC handled it (You go, bro.). Not to mention that Yuri is one of the reasons why Natsuki ended up killing herself.

I liked how Monika slapped her after they arrived at MC's house after Natsuki's funeral. When I saw that, I was like 'GO, MONIKA!' But that sadly didn't cheer me up that much. Now if you're going to start hating me for this, I have my reasons.

Sure he is a typical normal protagonist that the player controls in a game, yes? Well, here is the reasons why I blame him as well.

He didn't think about calling the police when his suspicions were proven correct. He didn't bother to delete the pictures Yuri sent to him (I wanted to call him a dense block of cheese but I chose not to). In addition, he failed to act quickly in order to save Natsuki from her dad when he took her back home. If that was me, I would just barge in and take the risks that it would have. In fact, when I saw that he didn't delete the erotic pictures Yuri sent to him, I wanted to scream at him.

If only he deleted the pictures and act quickly, Natsuki's death would have been prevented. In response to the part of your review saying 'But you'd think the school would've questioned her absences and someone other than MC would notice her bruises and start to wonder what's up.' That was addressed in the mod. When Natsuki gave more details to the MC about her abuse; Natsuki said, 'He. Beat me to the point I had to cover it up with make-up just to be able to go to school'.

Throughout that conversation Natsuki broke down crying and lost composure even though she is in private with someone she loves. Given everything Natsuki went through over the years I would say that was a realistic reaction.

Like you said telling people about your abuse is not easy and Natsuki acknowledged that covering it up prolonged her suffering. I would say this mod really well illustrated how difficult it is to tell people who are in a position to help you about your abuse and how important it is to tell someone who can help. Your other points were valid though, and I agree that this was an enjoyable mod. Her school is a different environment to a hospital. In her school she is surrounded by people who know her; classmates, teachers, and the other club members.

Doki Doki Normal Vn Mod

I'm sure those people seeing her face bruised up would question her and Natsuki is probably not a good liar. The hospital staff members don't know her and they would unlikely interrogate her on how she got injured, they would most likely accept whatever she says. Natsuki could have said a stranger attacked her and I don't think hospital staff would have done anything other than standard procedure in treating an injured person.

It was a coincidence that someone Natsuki knows saw her injured and because she didn't tell the MC her father attacked her at the hospital he had to investigate further. When I go see a doctor, they usually ask me what's up.

Sure whatever I tell them they'll probably believe, but I dunno why the hospital wouldn't be more concerned that this tiny high school girl has bruises all over her face and is crying. I also feel like with all her absences with no indication for where she could be (doctor's note, obituary, etc.) the teachers would wonder where she could be as well. And the only character in the whole game that even cares about her is the person you play as?

It just doesn't feel realistic to me.But again, I still liked this mod regardless. I'm just not sure how all the problems in it got so overlooked I suppose. Monika is best girl.

Both in game and in this mod.But seriously, Monika and Natsuki are both tied for best girl to me so it was nice to have more of Natuski and Monika not portrayed as psychotic like the game does and how people explain her (For the most part). I have the same problem with everything too. But other then that, all was good. And btw, I had an idea of a fan game were you are a younger MC and my headcanon on how the MC and Sayori meet, with my own and other's OC in the background. Seems like a good idea? Just randomly asking lol. I guess this is the problem with fanfiction or mods.

Some people just use it as an excuse to let their own perverted mind run loose, and the reader/player is left to suffer. Or take it for what it is.I'm personally working on a fanfic myself, where MC falls in love with Yuri. It's another 'normal VN' deal, but everyone has their own problems, including my MC and his father and Monika having been bullied out of the cheerleading team. But he cares about all of them. It starts with him comforting Sayori on the evening before the festival after saying she'll always be his dearest friend. She shows him her 'suicide note', trying to make him leave. But he persists.

'I love you like a sister. But I could never betray you by saying my heart is yours.' He then convinces her to go stargazing with him in the woods.

On festival day he saves Yuri from bullies, and starts to grow affection for her, while still making sure Sayori's fine. Eventually he helps orchestrating Natsuki's runaway from home and her abusive papa, and works up the courage to ask Yuri to the New Years ball. I agree with you almost 100%.

This mod bothered me for all the exact same reasons. My only point of difference is that I felt Monika's 'back story' for her freakout felt like too much of a hand-waved excuse. In my own, non-public review of the game, I told the dev that I understood his decisions, but everything was odd as a result. He used the other characters as vehicles for conflict, and as a result, none of them were quite right. You're not alone in this opinion. It is a good mod, but it's hardly perfect and I don't score it much better. Britt: I see what you mean about Monika, but I thought it was cool that they gave her a backstory. In the real game, MC makes it seem like Monika is just the most amazing girl ever (before everything starts going wrong of course.) He said she was good at sports, really sociable, a great student, etc. She was too 'perfect' for me, so I'm glad that in this mod they gave their own reason for why Monika acts 'perfect' all the time.

She has strict parents who want her to be good at everything. But I do agree with what you said about how the other characters were used as vehicles. It felt like a lot of unnecessary drama to me:/Thanks for your comment, too!

I'm glad you agree.
