I have the original Cyber Twin (not SE). From what I've read it's considered better made for whatever reason?Anyway. I never bonded with it and always found it treble heavy and weak in the mids (probably more to do with the speakers than anything.) now 10 years later after owning Vox's and vintage Fenders (pro reverb, vibro champ, deluxe reverb, twin reverb) I decided to try out my dust covered cyber twin just for fun. I was really quite blown away. It sounds so much better than I remember it. I guess I was just a terrible player back then.Anyway, as long as you accept that it's a twin amp and it's never going to sound like a Marshall halfstack, I think you can really appreciate it, even for a hybrid amp.The super reverb, vibro king, vibrolux, bassman, other classic fender amp settings are surprisingly great sounding in their own right.

I don't care how accurate they are to the originals, (I'm sure they're not) they're dang fun and inspiring to play out of.You want to set the trim to occasionally blinking in the red when your guitar volume is dimed but in the green MOST of the time to really optimize the gain staging. It still cleans up well with the guitar volume knob just like a good tube amp should.I like how you can get a good tube amp sound at unbelievably low volumes. Better than my 5 watt vibro champ in that regard, believe it or not.I'm interested to see how it does at live volumes. I'm worried noise might be a concern given the design, but if it's not as big of a problem as I suspect then this could end up being a good gigging amp.

The 2101 is the midi merge / midi program change master for program changes.Obviously this set up takes a lot of programming. So far, no matter what I do, I find the first edition CT sounds better than the SE. I am guessing it is the low usage on the newer SE.

That said, I have never gigged my FE.and it has had many, many years of very low usage. Also, I use a couple of methods to remotely control all 3 pre / FX simultaneously (Evolution UC33; Touch OSC; midi cc from Propellerhead Reason). The way I have it set up, the midi controller can dial in the exact same settings on both CTs simultaneously, and I still find the FE sounds better (less sterile) than the SE.Yesterday I changed cables around as I had a Klotz La Grange feeding the FE and a common Fender toaster on the SE.this did make a slight difference. Anyway, much love for Cyber Twins for me. I got the 1st model when they came out in 2001. It instantly became my grab and go amp. Have been using a 69 Dual Showman Rvb x 2 Altec 418H since 72.The main thing on getting a good sound out of this amp is learning how to adjust the Trim, and Gain.

IMHO the The Presets all have a bit to much Gain, but can be great starting points.I turn back the Gain, and give the amp more volume to compensate. Might also slightly adjust Trim.

This also allows for better use of Fuzz, and Drive/Boost into the front of the amp. This makes it much clearer/articulate.Several years ago I swapped out the stock tubes with 2 matched Mullard 7025s, and 2 x Celestion 90w Alnicos. Minecraft texture packs. Theyre 2-3db more efficient than the stock speakers, and increased the highs.

IMHO the GT12-100s are muddy, grainy, and inarticulate. They work well enough, but IMHO considering I only use a few models, the 1s I use are mostly Fender, and Marshall, and considering I have both GMP45/Metro head, and it kills with 2 Creams, and my 69 Dual Showman Rvb also kills with these speakers, my illogical thinking told me the Creams would go well fo the sounds Im trying to get with this amp. And I like the amp/sound much much better.Ive also tried the 150w Celestion Redbacks, and they also sound killer, but Im more of an Alnico guy, but I could easily live with the Redbacks. Ive been thinking about getting another CT, and loading it with Redbacks. I like they are 300w for 2 of them. Vs 180 for the Creams. My midi toggles are typically only to the 2101 tho. Now, I find using a desktop midi controller like an Evolution UC33 is even better control for the CT because you go far beyond the real time parameter control of a couple of rocker pedals. Without a computer. If you get a computer involved, TouchOSC is awesome.smaller footprint, wireless, and instant access to all 18 CT parameters. Even further, is automating parameters from a DAW because you can do multiple CCs with exact timings and parameter changes to exact values. Tempstar troubleshooting guide. You do have to be careful DAW automation because these units don't or won't cope well multiple long sweeping parameter value changes.that doesn't mean don't try, because some pretty cool stuff can be programmed.

I just have a little more experimenting with fx and rvrb in/out functions which I don't yet fully understand. I'd love to get something working that dynamically changes the fx1, fx2, fx3, fx4 control labels depending upon which effect is chosen. What happens to you when you have a controller like this is that you play more than menu dive.without touching any amp knobs or buttonsprogramming/auditioning all possibilities becomes exponentially fasterso you just do it on the fly.
